Gyanendriya
Gyanendriya is a Sanskrit word created by joining gyan (knowledge) and indriya (organ). These are also called sense organs since the ability to perceive the corresponding Panchtanmattra resides in each of these organs. These are considered superior to the Karmendriyan which are action-oriented organs.

Ears or karṇa (कर्ण) have the ability to perceive sound since the akaasha (space) element of Panch Mahabhoot is prominent in their construction.

Skin or tvacā (त्वचा) has the ability to perceive touch since the vayu (air) element of Panch Mahabhoot is prominent in its construction

Eyes or cakṣu (चक्षु) have the ability to perceive form since the tej (light) element of Panch Mahabhoot is prominent in their construction

Tongue or rasanā (रसना) has the ability to perceive taste since the jal (water) element of Panch Mahabhoot is prominent in its construction.

Nose or nāsikā (नासिका) has the ability to perceive smell since the pritvi (earth) element of Panch Mahabhoot is prominent in its construction.
